I felt tears starting to well up in my eyes this morning at the music program. It is hitting me that I won't be back with the same kids I have had for the last three school years. In fact, I won't be with any of the Ada kids that I know and love! It is going to be so different next year.
For anyone that still may not know, my husband and I have decided to move to Oklahoma City. I will be teaching 2nd grade next year at Santa Fe Elementary in Moore. I am very excited for all of these changes, but very nervous!
What will I ever do without all of this kids? I have gotten so use to this bunch that I really don't know any different! Eeek! Thank you to everyone that has made my teaching experience here in Ada a great one! I will miss everyone of you so much!
Now we need to get to some business! The end of the year is here, believe it or not...here are the last few events that we have scheduled:
May 18th: Willard Fun Day (No Money Needed)
May 20th: Spring Fling Talent Show 9:15 Willard Gym
May 21st: Awards Assembly
May 21st: Report Cards Go Home
May 22: LAST DAY!!! Buses run at 11:40!
Please let me know if your child is not planning on attending on the last day! We are going to be required to take attendance that day! Just a little FYI!!!
If there is anything else I will keep you updated.
Again, thank you for a wonderful year!

Zoo
We had a wonderful time at the OKC Zoo yesterday! All of the students that made their 3rd nine weeks Accelerated Reader Goal were rewarded with a trip to the zoo. I will post pics and info ASAP!
Testing is the week of April 13. As if you didn't already know that! Just a friendly reminder!
We have been working hard all year long to prepare for the CRT's, but we are really trying to cram all of the last minute material in. We are stressed and deserve a big break after the week of testing! If you would like to donate snacks during test week, we would really appreciate it! :) Just let Mrs. H know when and what you would like to bring.
All of that brain power makes us hungry!

Mahalia Jackson

The reading story this week is from The Blues Singers: Ten Who Rocked the World, Mahalia Jackson. It is an expository non-fiction genre. Expository non- fiction explains what certain things are and how they came to be.
Here is a little background information on Mahalia Jackson:
Born: 26 October 1911
Birthplace: New Orleans, Louisiana
Died: 27 January 1972 (heart failure)
Best Known As: Gospel singing legend
Mahalia Jackson grew up singing in church, moved from New Orleans to Chicago when she was a teenager, and eventually went into business in real estate and as a shop owner. All the while she continued to sing gospel, turning down offers to perform professionally. She finally began recording in the 1930s, and a decade later her own "Move On Up A Little Higher" became a million-seller. She toured the world, appeared in films and on television, and performed at the inauguration of U.S. president John F. Kennedy. She is considered one of America's greatest gospel singers.

Here are some pics from our latest science experiments.
The Naked Egg
We just completed this one today. One week ago we placed an egg into a jar of vinegar. What you get out is a naked egg. What happened? The eggshell is a base, calcium carbonate, and the vinegar is an acid. The acid slowly eats away at the shell, while the membrane of the egg stays intact. It was really cool, but stinky.
Check out the video link to watch how it works.
